My early figs from 2010...what do you think about rope handle containers for potted figs?

I had tried figs in-ground in ‘08 - ‘09. All varieties died to the ground after the winter with no protection. In 2010 I tried some figs in pots and kept them in an unheated shed for the winter.

…all died.

I’m thinking of using some of these rope handle tubs with my potted figs this time around. I only used the rope handle containers for one summer, so do not know how they work long term.

They are relatively inexpensive. What do you think about rope handle containers for potted figs?

Do you put holes in the bottom of them?

These look pretty good to me too and I might take the idea! I ordered a couple new fig trees. I am planning to put them in the ground eventually. I wanted them in containers for a year or two to get a bit larger before being thrust out into zone6b.

i think theyd be fine. i am uppotting all my rooted cuttings into 5 gal nursery pots i got for relatively cheap (sub 1 a pot) for this season

There are holes in the bottom of my buckets. I have considered putting holes in the sides of my buckets o roots can grow out into ground and can be easily cut to bring the figs in come winter..
