A little back story. I grafted(‘early jewel’ scion on a D. virginian rootstock) this plant this year back in may. We have had an excruciatingly hot summer. Starting in July we have had 100+ degrees weather and haven’t seen a drop of rain. The scion had tremendous growth in spite of the heat btw.
Anyhow…By the end of July, we were having problems with our well maintaining a consistent flow of irrigation. So this tree was getting good irrigation from April throughout middle of July, then irrigation was spotty with triple degree weather, but we have since extended the depth of our well and now we are having good irrigation on that tree again.
OK when I was out this morning, I was looking at my tree and noticed that there were signs of gummosis in two spots.
Is this due to drought-to-water-availability issues or does this look like the evidence of borers? I’m new to persimmons in general, so any kind of advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
I took before and after photos removing the clear gum.
