My Urban Farm Project/ growing veggies on aspalt

Hey guys here is a link to a blog I just did all about my Urban Farm Project I’m working on in Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. There is no way to sugar coat this the area I work in is a ghetto. Any other Dallas peeps here can tell you this is a tough area. Diabetes rates are crazy and there are a lot of issues with food security. This project aims to help out with these issues. To be clear this is not something I am paid extra to do. I was blessed to have the opportunity to take something I know about and put it to good use and that is what I’m doing (just like Applenut has done). I hope all of you will read it and if you don’t mind share it off of the State Fair facebook page. The way I look at it the more people who know about the project the more people will want to get involved and the more my company will want to invest. Of course you all know I will be hitting all of y’all up for advice along the way so just get ready. Thank you soooo much if take the time to read this blog and thanks for all the great that all of you do!

I read the post and I wonder why you don’t take the tulip bulbs and rather than compost them,
dry them out and offer them to people who might want to plant them in the fall for next year?

The community college here did a similar project, they donated a lot to the food pantry every year until the college decided to build more parking on the land they were using

A few reasons. 1) I really need the compost to fertilize the soil. 2) would be tough to organize that as we don’t have refrigerator space adequate enough for the 11,000 plus bulbs to store them until people could pick them up. It is something I may consider for next year though. Thank you for reading!

Hate to hear that. A number of projects here in Dallas have either failed or were pulled like that as well. I’m hopeful that mine will be around for the long run. I have been hard at it to connect to lots of organizations to support and get behind/promote this project. Thank you for reading!
