Good luck, keep us posted!
You know what, I think I do have it. I think I had fruit off that tree last year and was thinking it was acidic. Didn’t you say Honey Halo is low acid?
The fruit is swelling up now. So, I’ll get to try it soon.
I do remember you mentioning that it was acidic, which came as a surprise to me, as I consider it low acid. Perhaps not as low as Arctic Star, but definitely not like Snack Time or Snow Queen.
Got mine at Costco last year. It’s suppose to be sweet like honey. The nectarine that came with the home is like that. When it’s ripe, you don’t even need to bite it. You can suck the whole thing and the juice will flow with tremors amount of sugar. The smell is amazing and it’s highly prize by the squirrels.
Paw Patrol below. Squirrels beware.
Fabulous nectarines! I don’t grow any but I do have a few peaches. One of them is an early producer…in fact, it’s already produced a few small sweeties just this afternoon. The tree was loaded this spring and I had to thin it it aggressively. About 60%. If the tree rats or coons don’t spoil it we will have one of the best harvests ever. Pretty excited about now.
Arctic glo was by far my favorite, flavor wise, but we took them out (along with all our nectarines) because of susceptibility to brown rot.
I got one fruit from arctic glo last year and it was fantastic! This year it is loaded and the split pits are starting to ripen. Its a race between arctic babe and arctic glo.
How does your snow queen do vs spring frost?
Snow Queen is one of my latest nectarines to bloom, so it should fair better than others with spring frosts.
It is pretty hard, I planted it on north side of the house. later spring frost is not a big problem for Snow Queen . The temperature fluctuation during the winter time is THE problem here. It kills flower buds .
Thoughts on this tree? My 3 peaches are doing fine. We had a wet spring obviously, and this is in a pretty wet area in the spring (i know) but its dry now. Concerned about root rot. Would it grow this much (was a whip 3 months ago) if the roots were dying?
Root rot would prevent the leaves from getting water and nutrients. I see new growth, so the tree should do fine.
Thay was my thought. At some point this yard was re-graded so i wonder if there are areas where the soilchas more clay than other parts. Maybe it just needs some fertilizer.
It has rained every day for 10 days. Brix has suffered, but Im still quite happy with snack time and arctic glo at 11-12 brix. Arctic babe is another story, at 8 brix and terribly uneven ripening. I also noticed uneven ripening on arctic glo. Does excess precipitation contribute to this problem?
The fruits look attractive
I finally eaten my 1 and only Snow Queen nectarine. I tasted a little different from my house nectarine. There was an extra flavor that was hard to describe. I finally eaten my first Honey Halo. It was picked 1 week early. It’s firm, crunchy and still sweet. The skin turned yellow, but the flesh still remain firm. If you are not a fan of soft nectarine, then Honey Halo is for you. So far, no chance of rain for months.
HOW LONG. I have zero patience this time of year.
and a plum fell on my head. something bit it and it went ripe/bad.
Good cat!
