Need some help picking out garden seeds

Looking for a bulk garden seed company. I only grow heirloom type seeds for certain vegetables. . Some seeds I purchase by the pound. Anyone have suggestions? I’m open to any seeds but I set great store in flavor and production

What kind of seeds do you need to buy by the pound? Is it corn? What other types of seeds are you looking for?

The place I’ve gone in the past for cheap heirloom seeds, especially tomatoes, peppers and greens is ohioheirloomseeds.com . Very reasonable prices for a lot of seeds per pack, usually about 35-50. I don’t think I’ve ever paid more than $3 per pack, most under $2.

I like their grafting wood but have not tried seeds

they are good for by the pound purchases.

They sell some beans, kale and squash, but not a big selection.

For corn, I recall Gurney’s and Johnny’s Selected Seeds has a big selection, but don’t recall their prices.

Bought seed from a guy in Missouri who was always fare with me and even generous but he is out of business. He apparently was not popular with everyone. I’ve bought things from many of the others years ago.

Tomato Growers Supply Company has tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and sells in bulk.

Johnny’s Selected Seeds offers a vast selection of vegetables and herbs in quantity with organic, heirloom, and non-GMO options.

I didn’t buy quantities like that, but I liked doing business with them and liked their seeds and website. I probably spent less than $25.00 with them, so that’s not much experience.

I will also support Urban Farmer. I have bought close to 50 lbs in cover crop seeds from them, they are a good company.

Charles Hart seed company link set off some alerts as a phishing domain so there may be a change in website ownership.

When I traced the website ip address it went to GoDaddy as would be expected so it’s odd it was flagged.

The Urban farmer looks pretty good. Thanks

Thanks for all the great links everyone so far the Urban Farmer @ILParadiseFarm mentioned seems to best fit my needs. @glib thanks for the confirmation.

Checking bulk prices, Urban Farmer is higher priced than others on the items I viewed.

http://www.johnnyseeds.com seems very reasonable on cover crop seed eg. mustard. Love using fall mustard cover crops eg. http://www.johnnyseeds.com/farm-seed/brassicas/mustard-cover-crop-seed-3522.html?cgid=brassicas#start=1. The thing I don’t like about Johnny’s is the way they sell seed eg. Provider bush beans ( love provider bush beans) http://www.johnnyseeds.com/vegetables/beans/provider-bean-seed-10.html?cgid=beans#start=1
1,000 Seeds = $5.48 but they don’t say the size of the green bean seed which is why I normally buy by the pound. Some farm stores sell seed that way so they can sell smaller seeds (aka seconds) which I don’t feel like is the case but I’m trying to figure out why they don’t sell by 1/4 pound, 1/2 pound, pound etc… To give an example the seeds on the end of an ear of corn are smaller because they are inferior and all seeds should be taken from the middle. Some dealers sell the middle seeds at #1 prices and the end seeds at #2 prices which is fine if you know which your buying.

I suppose it’s possible to sell inferior seeds by the pound or by the count. Knowing both numbers would be ideal.

@Richard,
Their organic bean seed section is actually a little better because it spells it out clearer Avg. 1,350 seeds/lb. which is very inexpensive for organic green bean seed http://www.johnnyseeds.com/vegetables/beans/bush-beans/provider-organic-bean-seed-10G.53.html. I suspect in their case they are making sure they are not misleading anyone but as you said if they do that both numbers should be given. Johnny’s shipping is listed below

$ 0.01–10.00 $ 4.00
$ 10.01–30.00 $ 6.75
$ 30.01–50.00 $ 10.00
$ 50.01–100.00 $ 13.00
$ 100.01–150.00 $ 15.00

Cucuzzi Gourds are one of my favorites to grow but germination rate is typically a problem which makes the price of good seed on the higher side with no guarantee it’s good seed your getting. Anyone have a good source for them? I see http://www.reimerseeds.com/cucuzzi-gourds.aspx?LineItemId=fb426bfd-97d4-47e9-bdea-575566c7aa6d carries them but am not familiar with their seed.

@glib
