No Winter Kill Z5b NY- Looking Good

I visited my orchard this past weekend and found that the warm winter and the unlikelyhood of a freeze has given me a ray of optimism during these trying times

.I found that the stone fruit, and the plums in particular, are carrying a POTENTIAL for a HEAVY crop this year.

Below is just a ample. This year I hope to select a few cultivars and will start a dedicated thread to each and will be adding weekly photos so there will be a stream of photos showing the progress from week to week up to harvest.

Below is just a sample of what I found this week in Z5b NY about 35 miles south of Albany NY

I’m looking forward to your planned reports. While I don’t have the same varieties as you the fact that we have the same zone means I ( and others) can learn much by observing!
Good luck!

I checked our apricots yesterday, all the ovaries are brown, looks like no apricots this year.

Sorry to hear that.
What was the low temp you got at bloom time?

They haven’t bloomed yet, this is Vermont, I cut they and looked. Highest temp earlier 60F, combined with freezing temps inbetween this month.

.Hope all of your plums will do well for you.

Apricots are hit or miss even in a warmer zone 6a where I am. They are blooming now. So far, the lowest temp was 29 early this week. Not much damage but it’s only April 10. things still can be tricky here.

Same here…looks like the peaches/nectarines/plums look to have made it…so far. Luckily nothing is blooming because low 20Fs are a sure thing in the next few nights. I did spray copper aboutt a week ago for peach leaf curl.

Coldest here this winter was around that -20F mark…
