Non-stop tomatoes

I decided to use my last tomatoes that I picked green about a month and something ago. I had some surprise waited for me inside when I started to cut them.

Eww, are those little worms?? Guess you won’t be having tom salad today!

Looks like the seeds germinating.

Yes, they germinated! I probably could plant them if it would be container tomato, but it is huge one!

OK, didn’t know what that was, don’t think I’ve seen something like that before. What variety is it?

Our plants played out way back in late August. It was a chore tending to all of 'em. We had over 60 tom plants of 30 different varieties in the ground! I have a thread on here regarding the progress of those and the peppers we planted. I’m planning on writing a summary of how the varieties did, and if we’ll try them again next year.

I am not exactly sure which one I made photo of, but I think they all doing it. I have Jetsetter, Forth of July and Cherokee Chocolate. Some of the stored tomatoes just gone bad after they got red and not used, and some still look good like they just stopped the normal process of aging. Now I know what they doing inside :grinning:. I saw such things with pumpkins and zucchinis, but seeing it first time with tomatoes.

That is the first time that I have seen that too. I have read that the jelly like substance surrounding the seeds prevents germination. I think that is why it is recommended to ferment the seeds when saving the seeds.

Right before the frost in early November, I picked 4 gallons of green tomatoes. Been ripening them in house in boxes using bananas. Not many left though.

I am going to place one tomato on the saucer near window. Will see if the plant(s) emerge from it :grinning:
