Nonsense: Might be allergic? Sensitive? To some raw fruits and veggies

Hi guys,

I’m running into a recurring issue where I get nauseous after a handful of raspberries or a bowl of salad. Not tingly, not watery-eyed, but full on sick to my stomach depending on how much of a thing I have.

I don’t know if it’s possibly the stuff sprayed on said items, I know rinsing them off can only do so much, but I can have COOKED vegetables and I think cooked fruit just fine? But I might’ve just gotten sick over a frozen Asian veggie mix, so I don’t know anymore.

I used to be fine with anything, all the time, anytime. Has anyone else heard of this? Experienced it? Fixed it???

Maybe look into oral allergy syndrome. Try microwaving the fruit for 10 seconds before eating. It usuallt causes itching in the mouth but can do stomach issues too. Its an allergy to usuallt some sort of tree or grass pollen on a fruit or veggie, and so is somewhat seasonal (i.e. fruits and veggies picked during that pollen season will cause a reaction but not other seasons)When cooked it deactivates the protein in the pollen

Cooking can also break down whatever is in as opposed to on the foods that you may be allergic.

I’ve never heard of what @snarfing said but it sounds totally plausible. Also sounds like what you’re experiencing isn’t severe, but also isn’t really mild either. Food allergies can be very dangerous and professional help can be quite good if available to you since it’s well-trod territory—most cases have a playbook, even for severe allergies. PAs can be very good here as well and open up access further (you don’t have to see only an MD)

My mom and other people thought that I was picky or having psychosomatic issues with salad greens, but when I left America to Europe, Russia, and Brazil; I was able to clearly tell it was not me that was the problem, lots of countries grow their fruits, and especially salad greens with so many chemicals that they are noticeably toxic even while eating them.

The worst countries by notable pesticide a d herbicide effects in my experience are:

US, Morroco (export), Chile (export), India (export), China (export)

The best being: Armenia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Poland, Philippines, Egypt but it seems like it is starting to adopt practices from Morocco, like dying and flavoring mandarins and oranges.

Yes, some issues. With fruits and veg from stores. Years ago a lady friend sucked on some mango skin and got a bad rash one time. With home grown stuff, I can’t remember any issues.

Mango can cause poison ivy like reactions in some people (it’s a relative of poison ivy)

Thank you, that was my first thought as well.

Yeah mangoes and cashews have a small amount of urushiol I believe. I always make sure to never leave any skin on when cutting mango.

I do have a friend that has sensitivity issues to raw fruit in the rosaceae family. Probably the same oral allergy syndrome mentioned above. I know some people get that from peach fuzz as well. consider seeing an allergist (or just cooking fruit like snarfing said)

Always good to review things like this with your doctor. Also, worth looking int clean 15/dirty dozen and gathering more data points on conventions v organic for when you see your doctor.

I had a problem with eating uncooked vegetables and some fruits for a time. I just had an antibiotic for 2 weeks for lyme disease and everything just seemed to lay in my stomach. The doctor told me the antibiotic killed the bacteria in my stomach and to eat greek yogurt to get it back. I am back to normal as far as eating fruit and veggies. Sometimes it is just something simple but i doesn’t hurt to get checked.
