I have North Star sour cherry tree that pushed a shoot from the root. When I look at the tree I do not see the grafting scar, though I bought it as potted tree about 8-10 years ago and it could be be under soil line. Does North Star usually has its own roots or it is usually grafted? I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to save the shoot.
Mine is grafted.

Galina,
I guess that is a rootstock sucker.

may be, but why then North star is always a dwarf? I thought dwarf properties come from rootstock. Anyway, I mowed the shoot down today.
