We are still new to grafting rootstocks and young trees and curious about what fencing should look like around our small nursery? Our nursery is within our 8 foot orchard fence, but it does not have a very small square weave, so small animals can still make it through. Should we have a tight mesh fence around the small trees or just vole guards on them and hope for the best?

My thought is the more protection, the better

You could get some of that ultra cheap nylon netting from e-bay. Then just run it around the existing fence. Don’t expect a lifetime out of it, but it will work for a good while and it’s really cheap. I bought some a while back for bird netting on trees, but it’s garbage for that.
