Orange and Apple Blossoms

The view out my window as I’m grafting apples. The neighbor just lets the Valencia oranges fall and rot, I overheard the lawn guys asking if they could pick some. A wise choice, as our dry year has made the orange juice mind-blowing sweet.

The apple blossoms starting to pop are Hawkeye and Cortland, the leafed-out apple tree is Dorset Golden. The Valencia tree is also starting to blossom; I’ll graft with the window open from here on out, as the scent is heavenly.

When I see a loaded tree like that and the owners wanting nothing to do with it I think of what a shame it is. I wish I could grow citrus like that here. My daughter would be in heaven.

I hope your neighbor said yes to the workers and you! What a waste. Huge tree too.

I cut my orange down. Couldn’t get it dry enough for really sweet. It rooted into everything else. And was always covered in scale.
