Rust's Osborn Prolific fig

Today I finished planting this Osborn Prolific fig from Four Winds Growers. It’s replaced my under-performing Snow Queen nectarine.

There’s one or two figs on this tree that will be ready in a few days and the remainder have at least a couple weeks of warm weather to go.

This one is absolutely spectacular here in the cool PNW.

I really like the flavor of this fig too. In my environment it is one of the best caramel flavored figs.

When does it normally start ripening for you?

Typically early October is main crop time in the PNW.

Thanks, I’m going to give mine another year to try and prove itself

3/15. Some culling will ensue, esp. those on the bottom of last year’s knots and any that head out sideways.

I recently learned that I do not have the English Osborn’s Prolific (synonymous with French Archipel) but instead Rust’s Osborn Prolific – introduced to California by Rust Nurseries of Pasadena a century ago and distributed by NCGR Davis for many years. Hence the change in the thread title.

I pruned it today, in hopes of keeping it from overwhelming us this Fall.

8/25. 9 feet of growth since March 15.

Here’s the first fig of the year from this tree. After I cut it open I realized I’d picked it two days early.

Isn’t it late for you?
Mine is also getting ripe just about now but it was in shade.
