have been noticing the sweet smell in my tent lately. almost maple syrupy 
anyone ever notice that incarnata doesnt like being trained down after growing vertical? their leaves get all wilty and discolored like a nutrient deficiency or something. pretty sure the stem isnt getting crushed or anything. you can sort of see them in the bottom right:
they are absolutely dripping:
From my experience, passiflora stems are very brittle when bent, so when they are trained down the veins break. This has been true in my experience for edulis, malaformis, incarnata and even quadrangularis (which has a much thicker stalk). They can be trained downwards, but it has to be at a very slow decline. Brand new growth that hasn’t been fully developed can also be trained gently.
my edulis(purple possum and bounty) have no problems it seems. and im talking about new incarnata growth being trained around the bamboo steaks in my bucket:
up-potted my possom purple and bounty today after bringing out of the grow tent from the winter. we should be above 40f for the rest of the season:
untangled them and stuck them to either side of an 8’x8’ cement mesh panel trellis. hopefully i cant get them to ripen a bunch of fruit this season:
Qmni #9 seedlings starting to really germinate. In addition to the one that has true leaves, 5 or 6 seeds have started sprouting.
Taiwanese Purple seedlings growing very well. Good germination and growth so far.
Banana passionfruit (Passiflora tarminiana) sprouting. The first one sprouted a while ago, now there seems to be some additional germination.
In addition to these seedlings, I have a couple of purple possum seedlings in ground starting to trellis well and I took some cuttings from my Passiflora malaformis to see if I can get some rootings. It has exploded since dying back to the roots, at least double if not triple the size before the cold.
My latest addition to the garden: Passiflora tripartita var. mollissima and Passiflora edulis.
Does anyone have experience with these in zone 9 winters?
at around the 13m mark he talks about not cutting them back and them producing more flowers that way. also, i could never have that much faith in trellises like that in such little pots. impressive collection and im glad its working out.

From murray farms. Sweet at the front and then it quickly fades. Nice crunchy seeds. Not as tasty as “normal” passionfruit
when i brought out my passionfruit plants to trellis for the summer they quickly started flowering and setting fruit. then it all suddenly stopped. figured it was just working on growing up the trellis. turns out i think something is taking my flower buds:
anyone know of a pest that could be doing this? never had it last year. i have seen ground squirrels around.
Last year, I learned Cardinals eat squash blossoms. I wonder if there is a bird that likes passiflora buds?
On a different note, I have to show off the beautifully rooted Purple Possum and Bounty I purchased from @kinghat. Excited for these and totally appreciate the recycled containers.
I love the color on these. I hope somebody manages to cross it with incarnata to combine the color and flavor some day.
One of my Passiflora incarnata (maypop) suckers has some interesting leaf morphology. Has anyone else seen extra lobes on their Passiflora leaves?
Yes, it seems to me to be not uncommon.
Other odd things can happen such as flower buds at the end of tendrils, etc

Mine does this every year. I’ve had as many as 7 “fingers* on each leaf.

when i brought my vines outside it flowered a few times and set some fruit before taking a break on all that. now those fruits are starting to turn purple but are dropping early. i think it might be a few periods of inconsistent moisture 
i took pictures when these fruit set and when they fell and the difference was ~2 months.
