They’re self fertile, not self pollinating. If you don’t have bumblebees hanging around, there’s not much else that is big enough to pollinate them from my experience.

tons of bumbles here so that shouldnt be a problem. ill try playing pollinator next summer to see if maybe they dont recognize the species…

Lots of passionfruit varieties have very poor fruit set.
If we ask nicely maybe @a_Vivaldi will summarize his findings in one short post (well, as short as his posts can be)

Agreed, many varieties are more ornamental and don’t produce much if anything. And cross pollination is often required.
More tropical types seem to want to get pretty big before fruiting, even if blooming a lot and supposedly self fertile. Incarnata seems better about producing when small but is worse for needing cross pollination.
Humidity or rain can make a difference too, I never get good fruit set in wet weather. Seems like time of day matters too for pollination.
Hummingbirds and large bees are probably the only pollinators who can fertilize the flowers.

mines just a run of the mill incarnata i got as a root from esty. its in a 20 gal pot on the south side of my house. the vine only got about 6ft long but has produced about 20 flowers since aug.

One of my maypop vines has not tendrils I bought it from @Blake ‘s nursery during his summer sale. None of the other 13 plants from him have this defect ( 2 from last year and 11 from this year). Though someone would find it cool.

Are they seedlings and, if they are, how old is it? My Passiflora quadrangularis didn’t put out tendrils till I put it in the ground, which was about a year from seed. My edulis and maliformis acted similar. Different species, but that seems to be typical seedling behavior.

That is very interesting. I’ve grown a lot of incarnata from seed and I’ve always had tendrils once the vines reach a certain height (unsure exactly - certainly when as big as your plant) which occurs rather quickly.

Perhaps I’ve said this before, but I didn’t realize that passion vines have extrafloral nectaries like sweet cherries do.

Apparently those nectaries are egg mimics that confuse butterflies.

well my 2 incarnata vines produced about 20 blooms between them but not 1 fruit set. do i need to buy another plant or do i need to play pollinator for them next year to get some fruit?

my understanding is you need 2 genetically distinct vines for cross pollination with incarnata.
Perhaps your vines are clones?
That, or you have a serious deficiency in pollinators (large bees are the most common for incarnata)

they came from the same root cuttings so yes. ill buy a different one next spring to grow near it.

i have two edulis, “purple possum” and “bounty” is pruple possum usually green like this or does it not turn purple till it gets closer to ripening?

It becomes a light purple/yellow when it is ripe. I’ve seen some more red/purple and some that are more green, but they always change color a little. The one on the left is a purple possum.

One I bought from a fruit stand. I was told it was a group of seedlings the grower bred that produce very large passionfruit. I talk a little more about it here.

Mine turned fully purple/maroon. Old pictures btw, waiting for my current one to ripen as well but stuff happened so may not be able to get photos of it this year

Any idea what the percentage of seeds of Snowpop maypop will also be white?
I think i heard maypop seeds won’t be true so curious. Prob self pollinated, my other maypop is a bit further away.
