Pawpaw precocious

Pawpaw plants from seed seem to be slow growing. I think that I have seen that it may be in part based on where they are grown, zone 8 or zone 6 etc. Is t here a named pawpaw more precocious than another. What is the average time from graft to fruit. What is the average time from seed to fruit ?

others may be more help, but mango has a reputation for being vigorous and precocious, I believe.

that said, where you’re at and what you’re doing matters–I wouldn’t think for a minute that my pawpaw grafts, all things being equal and me being in S. wisconsin, were going to bear the same year as some guy’s in S. Kentucky, and if you had one top-worked graft stuck onto a 3-year whip with established roots, that is going to be at least a couple years ahead of a 12" graft in a 4" pot…

so folks can probably say a bit about what is more or less precocious, but without knowing where you’re at and if you’re talking about buying a plant, grafting, etc., it would be awful hard to tell you anything about when to expect fruit.

What is your approximate location?
Where is the tree going (open yard, edge of woods, semi-shade/full sun)?
What sort of soil conditions do you have there (low area, hilltop, dry and rocky, rich loam, clay, etc.)?

You can get fruits much sooner like in 2 years if you graft a paw paw scion with flower buds on them. This is how I did it my six varieties multi bark graft pawpaw tree.

I am in central Georgia zone 8 a. When should a pawpaw have fruit ? Has anyone made a test study on named plants and found one or more to be more precocious than others in such a test, with same age root stock and location?

The fastest growing ones for me have been from seeds of the Kentucky Champion Pawpaw. Brady

The fastest growing pawpaws I have seen are always at the edge of very rich, undisturbed old forest- where the soil has benefited from centuries of leaf decomposition and lack of disturbance. Yes, Mango is precocious and tastes great.
