Pawpaw seed storage fermentation smell

When pawpaw seeds are refrigerated, the seeds emit a fermented sour smell. I have cleaned them with 1.5% hydrogen peroxide, but there is still some smell. Does anyone have good suggestions? Will it affect the germination rate?

When I stored them in the fridge, the only thing I did was clean the pulp off them, rise them off, and then put them in a wet paper towel in a baggie in my crisper drawer.

I didn’t rise them with anything other than water. The paper towel did get some black mold spots etc. But I just swapped the paper towel once during the 3 months they were in fridge for a new one.

They all germinated for me.

may I ask if there is a fermented smell?

I never really smelled anything with mine, but I also have tons of other stuff in the refrigerator too (my kitchen fridge)

Can you smell it through the bag? I doubt you have much to worry about, the haul on pawpaw seeds is really thick.

I only had a few seeds in the bag as well from wild ones. Not sure how many you have.

You could always transfer them to a new wet paper towel and baggie.

I opened the bag and smelled it. There are quite a lot, a few hundred seeds. I’ll try changing the tissue and bag first.

Ahh, my bag had like 6 seeds. Not a few hundred . You’ll probably get some funky smells with that I’m guessing.

Yes, so I am quite worried and want to seek a solution.
