Whereas all my other peaches and nectarines dropped their leaves long ago, I have two that were planted just last year that were not shedding their leaves, one of which I sort of ‘helped along’. The other shows no sign of dropping leaves despite the fact that one of my early peaches has just begun to leaf out and bloom (Feb 4). I had wanted to cut some scion wood from that tree but since it doesn’t seem to be going dormant, is that advisable?
You can cut the scion wood and strip off the leaves. It’s as dormant as it’s going to get and more dormant than it appears. It could very likely survive teens at this point and possibly even zero. I still have a few leaves on nectarines outdoors that have seen teens several times this winter.
