Peach Rootstock Suggestions

I have red haven and indian free scions I am going to bench graft.

I ordered five Prunus Americana seedlings so far.

It’s getting kinda late so I’m running out of options on rootstock to order.

My options from what I can find are:

Marianna 2624 or St. Julian A
https://www.raintreenursery.com/Plum_Apricot_Almond_Peach/

Marianna GF8-1
http://shop.cumminsnursery.com/shop/rootstocks

Marianna 2624, Marianna GF8-1, and St. Julian A are plum rootstocks, but a search through the forums suggest they’d work for peaches.

I couldn’t find any websites that have Lovell, Bailey, or other potential peach rootstocks available.

I live in NJ zone 6A with clay soil. I can amend my soil and I have good drainage.

You might be able to get some peach trees for cheap from e.g. Vaughns. If they have some they lost the variety on or have too much of they may sell you a bundle at a discount. I have done this before. Who cares what variety they are, just cut off the top and graft away.

So you think that’s a better option than buying the rootstocks I mentioned? Do you recommend any varieties in particular in case the grafts fail? At least I will have a nice peach!

I was just giving another option. The advantage is you get a much bigger stock which will up the odds of a successful graft.
