Peach tree trained as UFO-ABC?

This tree is in a polytunnel in Nairn, Scotland, and has been discussed in another thread about a year ago.

Briefly, it was planted by a PO too close to the side, so to stop it punching through the plastic, it was either chop it down and start again, or cut it back severely to a fan or UFO form. I did the latter last year.

On the right-hand side, I have a good horizontal and 8 or 9 uprights (all last year’s wood). Unfortunately, not a single peach flower there.

  1. Why no flowers? Could it be the stress of having so much removed last year?
  2. Rather than fan, I’m going for an upright fruiting offshoot system, with alternate biennial cordons (UFO-ABC). So, the uprights that have fruited are removed and replacement uprights tied in. However, there is some suggestion I’d be better off keeping the uprights permanent, and renewing the horizontal stubs from those each year. Thoughts on this, please?

Many thanks.
