I had not planned on growing pears, but my wife wanted pears. So when I went to Edible Landscaping last year they had an over sized pear in what looked like a 15 gallon bucket (it was big, definitely larger than a 7 gallon). It was not the best looking tree with some split bark. Bought and put the pear tree in the ground. I bought two more from them for $30 a piece that were unknown pears in 7 gallon buckets this year. The first pear bought last year was a ‘Hosui’, the seconds were labeled Shinko but marked through “unknown”. The Hosui had one limb that looked like it had fire blight so I cut it off last year.
This year I sprayed the trees early with copper. I had planned on using immunox to spray the pears as a fungicide but found out immunox is not used on pears. Can anyone recommend a fungicide for pears? It looks like my pears survived the crap weather and I may actually get some.
What are good English pear varieties - preferably self fertile, disease resistant and late bloomers? I have room for one or two more pears.
