Pepper Geek Kit (Choy Experiment)

I got the Pepper Geek kit from Bootleg Farmer, it came with seeds, I was thinking I could keep seedlings in the pots longer and get an earlier start and maybe even get peppers next season.

For fun, I just planed 6 of each:

Bok Choy Purple Lady (Green Pots)
Choy Sun 50 Day (Yellow Pots)
Bok Choy Hedeu Tiny (Red Pots)

I put the pot color here, in case the label falls off .

Maybe I will get lucky and get some food out of this experiment.

Have fun! Keep in mind that over-ingestion of Choy gives many people indigestion.

Good, maybe I will get to stay home sick and hang out with my fruit trees, uhhh, I mean husband.

Is that Bootstrap Farmer? (Pepper Geek Starter Kit - 1 Kit - Bootstrap Farmer) I got a little confused reading your post because I think of “peppers” as belonging to the capsicums and choys as belonging to the mustards.

Yes but I am not planting peppers yet. In that link you will see there is a better price for a two pack kit.

I wanted bigger pot starting sets so that I could protect seedlings longer before planting outside and I do not like the bright colors of Bootstrap Farmers color selection, I find the colors in the pepper geek kit more pleasing. I am sure all colors fade in the sun though.

I have one kit planted with choy varieties and will be filling a second with mini lettuces/greens.

We are having weird, warmer weather right now.

I just wanted to plant some seeds. It’s more of an experiment to see what happens in this weird weather.

Sounds good. I’ve had good luck growing a baby bok choy here in Montana. Makes a nice side sliced lengthwise and fried in a little oil with garlic and then served with a splash of sesame oil and a garnish of toasted sesame seeds.

Yum!

I had baby bok choy at a dim sum place many moons ago, it had a brown sauce on it and it was so good I could’ve just eaten a giant bowl of that.

I love putting it in a bowl of soup and top with sesame seed oil. Spinach too. I love spinach.
Num num num.

I work near an Asian market that has different choys available. I am hoping to grow some myself someday.
