Persimmon and Pomegranate Tasting 2018

The Tam Kam was about an hour of hard work. The Izu was much easier and only took about 15 minutes to dig out. The Izu was younger, being planted in March 2013, while the Tam Kam was fall 2011. But I think the bigger difference was that the Izu was planted on a mound and didn’t have a tap root. The Tam Kam was from Just Fruits and Exotics, and they preserve the tap root with the tall pots that they send. It is probably good to have the tap root when planting it, but it is a real pain when digging it up…

Maybe, but I wanted to plant them close enough to the wall to get some warmth and avoid severe die-back. I should probably prune it to be fairly flat- almost espaliered. I’ll also put a persimmon or two in the backyard as well and I can compare how the less protected ones do.
