I’ve been trying to wade through the confusion of persimmon names and alternative names that seem to be out there. Here is the list that I have compiled so far. It would be interesting to hear feedback and corrections, as well as additional names and name alternatives.
Journey is a Hybrid 12.5 % Kaki F-4 cross of ( Rossey X Great wall ) X ( H-118 Early Jewel X OP) = no Male flowers has a taste of Vanilla, is excellent and begins to ripen before all the persimmons that we have planted, It has one flaw that I am not excited about, the production is so heavy that the limbs dangle with the weight of the fruit bending downward. First of the season to fruit then followed by J-59 and Prok.
…
Journey is a hybrid… very early… taste of vanilla… and on Cliffs site nuttrees.net.

Do they have DV’s in Portugal ?
From Pics I have seen it looks way bigger than any DV I have seen.
Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I was curious.
Since we now have a nice convent listing of the names and ‘alias’ of several cultivars, is there a listing somewhere of the breeding pedigrees of each cultivar in regards to what was the female and what was the male leading to its creation?
I think the best name that i have seen for grafted persimmons is ‘Sold Out’. Some have been that name for years.
theres a guy in IL… i he goes by Papa Pawpaw’s plants… he has tons of them as well as grafted pawpaws… but he is another that does not want to ship anything and really is wanting everyone to drive to him.
He did make a good point that he is open for someone to come up and visit him and buy tons of them to resell or ship…he said he is very cheap on his prices…he just wants people to come visit his orchards.
I found a listing for the James Claypool varieties that list each parent for each cultivar. I haven’t found a listing for the other producers like Jerry Lehman’s, Donald E. Compton’s, and David Lavergne’s but I think Cliff England lists the parentage on some of his trees on his site. Claypool orchard 2005 (1).pdf (619.4 KB)
