I ordered some bare root Phlox paniculata. All had growing shoots starting when I planted them.
I don’t know who else has experience with this, but at least anecdotally, it seems like if those original growing shoots break off the crown, it doesn’t really send up new growth. It’s basically “one and done “.
A damn squirrel has been digging around the perennial bed and broke a few of them off, and even over a month later, they have yet to send up even though faintest sign of new growth. Like they’re basically just gone now.
Can anyone confirm?
