Plant safe ice/snow melt?

I would be pretty upset. A bunch of my neighbors have had their mailboxes plowed through. (this has happened in past years and today I saw three downed ones from this storm in <1 mile on my very rural road). My mailbox is not easy to plow but it’s not also got a huge snowbank in front of it now, so I put a big plastic tub out with a sign on it asking that the mail and packages go in the box.

I had my driveway plowed by a neighbor with a tractor a couple years back. The driveway was pretty bad but he tore it up worse. This summer I paid 12k for help and machinery and gravel and spent many hours fixing up my driveway - It could have been a lot worse if I hadn’t done some of the labor. So I won’t plow it with a tractor now… for better or worse.

I have cleared a parking spot at the bottom of my driveway for now and even though it’s very very scary and hard to walk up and down - at least I have a car I borrowed to get to work. I hope your wife was able to get back up the hill!

My office was closed for 5 days with a sheet of ice. Problem started when the snow guy kept saying he was coming but never did. By the time another person could come it was so thick it had to be broken up into chunks to push with a skid steer. Rental on skid steer was $165 hour. Took 4 hours to clear the lot.
