Might be too late this year, but cutting the scars out with a x-acto knife shortly after they appear works sometimes. The wound usually heals just fine as the fruit grows. This guy talks about it a bit in this video.
I’ve read that waiting to thin until after PC do their damage can cause the fruit that are left to crush the grubs with internal pressure.
Ive removed fruits that were obviously bitten, as well as those that have fallen, and chopped them up - they all had grubs in them… hopefully it puts a dent in their future numbers.
I noticed a little weevle on my blackraspberry now… tried to get it but it dropped right away… hope they dont lay eggs in all of my rasperries???
I’m not sure what other fruits they dwell in. I’ve heard people say choke cherries.
I don’t think that is accurate at all. Stone fruits with PC damage nearly always drop. On apples and pears on the other hand nearly all PC get crushed by the fruit.
I don’t thin my stone fruits until all the PC fruits have dropped, otherwise you can over-thin because the damage can be worse than it appeared.
Good to know for the future. I probably overthinned this year then.
