Priscilla Apple

Not much talk about this apple on this forum. I doubt many folks grow it either. However.. i am going to try.

Interesting story is that this apple was involved in a nursery mix up and so many wrong trees were grown that the damage was done and folks lost interest in trying it.

Reviews of taste- from various sources-

Crisp, sweet and moderately juicy with a mild tartness. Licorice and pineapple aromas. An excellent dessert apple.

Priscilla apple: To simply describe this tree it is a very clean tree, makes big fruit without being thinned and is very productive. The fruit is excellent in taste and is very clean in a no spray situation.

What if Red Delicious were really good? They might be a bit like Priscilla.

Not much talk about Prima either.. the strawberry taste interests me along with the disease resistance. Priscilla interests me more though.

I’m excited for Priscilla. I grafted it to two of my baby trees this year. I plan on making another scaffold of it next year on the bigger of the two trees.

I grafted Priscilla this past spring. I’m willing to try any apple that is widely resistance to disease and has a decent flavor. Fingers crossed.

I grafted it on MM111 last year, of course no fruit yet. Tree seems healthy so far.

Interesting one. The disease resistance angle is what makes it worth trying even if the flavour is only middling. Sounds like quite a few people here have it grafted this year so hopefully we get some actual taste reports in a season or two.
