Purple reign

I bark grafted 2 Pakistan White last May 2019. I pruned them last month to get better scaffolds for next year and one of them even produced fruits.

They both probably will be loaded just like the Pakistan Black next year.

We have to compare one day to Australian Green.

I will post some mature berries photos of the PW and taste to compare with yours in a month or so.

I also have 2x pakistans white or saharanpur planted this year and also wondered if its the same as Australian Green.
Some sources say it is, others guarantee its not.
Trying to get some scionwood of AG to test it myself

Took my Black Beauty out of the basement 2 nights ago. Now weā€™re being forcasted to have temperatures drop down to 39 tonight and 30 (with snow) on Friday.

Its covered with developing berries.

Iā€™m going to assume that this plant will have to return inside for at least another week.

Anyone disagree?

No, mine is leafing out, going in the garage Thursday and Friday at least. And as many figs leafing out as I can, but not all.

Figs, bananas, passionflowers, mulberry, bamboos, too many tender things to mention.

Think I can get away with the unheated garage, Drew?

if it is not too big a specimen, iā€™d recommend you place it by a sunny window sill(indoors that is) to continue as much photosynthesis

Well it will slow down the cold. if enough? Who knows? I know this sucks!
My fruit trees are at risk even, well the fruit! Itā€™s going so well so far, this sucks.

It would be just at night, the days are plenty warm enough.

i see now. That should work even better. I thought the daytime temps there will be low.

Yeah you would never need to do this. The fig people call it the fig shuffle. We dance in and out of our garages! Iā€™m a total driveway farmer!

Temps were not that bad. I got up at 5 am to let the dog out. no frost, temps adjusted up a little now, but Friday is very cold, possibly 27 F Hope that comes up some. The Weather Channel has 27 as the low, the National Weather Service says 30, which is much better, hope itā€™s right!

My morus nigra is 5 feet tall, 4 feet wide and in a 12 gal pot. I donā€™t have windows that large.

back in the basement it goesā€¦

I canā€™t do too many pots in the driveway. (been cited for that previously) I was told no more than 3 pots per 10 feet in any direction.

Of course this is the same city in which they cited me for planting on the tree-lawn even though the actual statute was at no point ever violated. (the statute lists a maximum height and lists about 30 restricted species, but in no way prohibits planting thereā€¦interestingly enough the statute does prohibit piling snow on the tree-lawn, something the city plows do every single time they clear the streets).

One day my city may make me stop, I hope to cull many to make it a little bit more reasonable. Oh hey anytime you want to exchange plants. is fine with me. Iā€™m so done being quarantined. I went to my cottage and planted a couple rhubarb crowns. Damn itā€™s hard to figure which way is up with them? I may have to replant once/if it grows. I could have it upside down! I also grafted Oscar unto the rootstock I had there. Speaking of grafts, some of mine are already growing. Iā€™m doing more this week. I decided to try and grow Black Prince here first under protected conditions. Iā€™m going to use those other mulberry rootstocks I ordered next year. Iā€™ll just grow them out for now.
I had to pot up the blueberries I wanted at my cottage as I was unable to bring soil up. All went fairly well. My water line had no breaks. I have water there now. My sub pumpā€™s float broke, so I need a new sub pump. Also my oven there is not working right. Crap! So I need a new one. Getting it there is a huge problem at the moment. Luckily the burners work. I can BBQ or microwave though. Itā€™s hard to get big stuff on an island with no car ferry. 300 bucks to rent one per hour. My daughter bought a pontoon boat and is taking it up there with lumber for my floor, a generator and a kitchen cabinet. No more room for an oven. Plus stuff they need. Oh the soil for the blueberries is on there too. Going up with the boat the 15th.
All my plants looked fine up there I planted last year. Cool! Had a bonfire with friends and we sort of social distanced. The cops showed up (somebody called them) We had 20 people but by the time they got there we only had 7 people. Within the allowed limit of our governor Gretchen Hitler. The cops (which never ever come up) made some lame excuse about hearing somebody call for help. They left we partied on. So now neighbors turn in other neighbors in this police state we are in. Iā€™m so over this crap. My wife is an ER nurse and her hours have been cut for two weeks. No patients in the ER. The restrictions were only ever to stop the hospitals from being overwhelmed. They have done that, time to end them. It was never to prevent infection, just delay it. It will be back in the fall. Itā€™s a cold virus, itā€™s never going away.

that is just wrong. It is your driveway and growing greens is a down to earth doing. IMO you should get commended by city hall instead of getting dingedā€¦

I agree! well to be fair my city Sterling Heights, has said nothing! So I canā€™t complain. Iā€™ll tell them itā€™s to distract from the backyard plants.

My micro morus nigra is alive and growing cool! Maybe I can get another half inch this year?

Little micro nigraā€™s normal sized sister is opening buds

have to say, your micro nigra intrigues me as much as i got intrigued when mp3ā€™s were invented. And that is a fair analogy, lol

polyploidy does complicates matters doesnt it? just as it does to humans and other animals who get extra chromosomesā€¦

Yes, Itā€™s not very common in animals and does not result in new species which happens with plants. Why nigra is the way it is (polyploid) I donā€™t know?
My feeling is it is a fairly normal plant that ran into me. I believe environmental factors are at play. I hope it snaps out of it and grows. Iā€™m controlling conditions more this year. It now has overhead protection as I want moisture levels to remain ideal. It will be pushed a touch with food too.
I believe it has multiple leaders from very early damage to the main trunk. Although it could be some freak too. Itā€™s genes are all from the mother plant but they were reshuffled in both plants. So it is possible it is some strange dwarf. I think unlikely but totally possible.

Good luck on those rhubarbs. Iā€™ve planted it for the last 3 years. Last yearā€™s plant pushed 2 leaves and then decided to bloom, heavily. I cut off the bloom, but it hasnā€™t grown another leaf yet.

Yeah, our governor is on quite the power trip. My wife wonā€™t let me complain about her. The wife starts chemo next week. Iā€™m still doing wound care daily trying to get the openings from the previous surgeries closed.

I am at the point that (were it not for the wifeā€™s health concerns) Iā€™d be happy just to get it and get over it. Schools are going to be weird once they re-open in the fall.

I did grafting on my plum and assuming this yearā€™s grafts take I will have 1, maybe 2 locations left to graft on this tree. What do you recommend for a plum/apricot/peach/etc cross that does well in our area?

Sorry I missed this somehow? I will know more at the end of the year as a lot of new plums will fruit for the first time. On peaches I want a lot but seem to lose 2 for every one I put back! Argh! I need more trees!! Iā€™m pretty much out of room.
