Question on grafting onto heartnut

Since heartnut makes a smaller tree I was wondering if it would dwarf other walnuts . Possibly making them bear at a younger age .

Heartnut is so susceptible to several viruses that I would avoid using it as a rootstock. Are you looking to graft Persian walnut? Black walnut?

Walnuts in general are precocious. I have a 3 year old tree grown from a nut that produced 5 walnuts this year. Most walnuts grown from seed will produce nuts within 5 years.

I am mostly curious . My heartnut is a smaller tree than my bountiful butternut planted at the same time about 15 years ago . I planted some heartnut that the chipmunks missed . I will probably not graft them .

Here are some Heartnut catkins I saw today,
About a foot long !
Longest I have seen .
Spectacular swaying in the wind.
