Questions on growing potatoes, tomatoes, etc

I am told that aquaponics is very productive in a small area and is not meant to experience the same issues with crop rotation. When I was a teacher we had a small fish tank and grew some herbs in a floating raft and that was tremendously successful. I have no idea how this translates to a larger scale.

It would be great if someone could share personal experiences on how productive aquaponics is, and maybe how it works out cost wise.

It’s worthwhile to keep the inputs (costs) down. Part of the hobby for me.

Use real chemical name ferts when you use ferts.

I garden in containers. I use compost made out of wood chips broken down with urea fertilizer spiked with diatomaceous earth sweeping compound from the auto parts store with a little peat moss. Not perfect but it works.

Grow a few tomatoes from seed. It’s not that hard.

Greens are the all around best bet, but not all of them. Lettuce is harder than collards and arugula which are harder than turnip greens.

I believe in the occasional soil test. You can remedy any number of soil deficiencies on the cheap if you know what they are and can proceed systematically.
