Quince Eline

I have a quince eline rootstock from a failed graft last year. I don’t really have room for another pear tree but we are about to replant an area of our garden with some more ornamentals.

I wondered if anyone has ever grown out quince eline and so new knew whether or not it makes a good flowering quince in its own right?

Thanks

Dave

All quinces i have seen have similairly sized large flowers. I think (don’t have a source so might be wrong!) quice is quite close to it’s “wild” form. And i’d guess the fruits on quince E might be oky/decent. I’d expect less of a difference between the quality of quince rootstock to quice scion fruits than from an apple rootstock/scion comparison.

Best option however would be to source a scion of an tasty quince cultivar and graft that on the rootstock. You will get beautiful flowers and nice looking and tasting fruit that way.

Loquat is compatible with at least some types of quince, if you want to try something completely different.

That’s interesting, I’d not realised that. Many thanks for the info/ idea

You can also graft medlar on quince. That one also has quite showy flowers. I prefer quince fruit over medlar though.
Medlar has darker green leaves, where quince has lighter green. Depending on where in the ornamental garden you plant it, that might also matter
