Red Haven phytotoxicity to Ziram

Does anybody have any firsthand knowledge about phytotoxicity caused by spraying Ziram on Red Haven peach?

The label says so, but I’m curious if anybody knows firsthand?

Where on the Ziram label does it say that?

Page 1…this is the Italian version of Ziram (same ingredients)

I have the U.S. label too and I just noticed it doesn’t mention any phytotoxicity

Hi Gugh.
Yes, it is more than likely that your peach tree has phytotoxicity with the application of Ziram.
On the websites of phytosanitary products in Spain, it reports the following regarding the phytotoxicity of Ziram:

Recommendations for use: It has good adherence and low phytotoxicity except in some varieties of apricot tree, such as: “Búlida” and “Moniquí”, of peach and pear trees, such as: “Blanca de Aranjuez” .

That is to say , few peach varieties that suffer phytotoxicity with Ziram , but there are some sensitive varieties , and it seems that Red Heaven may be one of the susceptible varieties.

To solve this type of problem (phytotoxicity, that a little herbicide has fallen on the tree…, any stress situation), it is best to make one or two applications with amino acids.

Jose

Hi Jose, I wanted to buy a Red Haven tree but I noticed the Ziram label said it was sensitive.

So, after noticing the U.S. label says nothing about any peaches sensitive to phytotoxicity, I’m looking for people that have used Ziram on Red Haven to verify sensitivity or the lack of it

@jaypeedee do you spray Red Haven with Ziram?

Hi Hugh.
No, I do not have the Red Haven variety in my orchard, since it is small-medium in size and I am only interested in large-caliber peach varieties, very sweet and subacid.
Red Haven is a variety well adapted to cold climates, but you live in Italy.

Why do you want to put the Red Haven variety in your orchard ?

In Italian nurseries that sell to fans, you have incredible varieties of peach trees.

Just to mention some highly recommended varieties (only four examples, of infinite varieties)

-Royal Summer
-Royal Jim
-Sweet Dream
-Sweet Henry

These varieties and many more, I do have them in my orchard , and they do not suffer from phytotoxicity with Ziram.

Regards
Jose

I read that Red Haven is one of the top planted peaches in the U.S. and one of the top producing and tasting so I thought it would be a good one to try.

Locally my choices are pretty slim and when I order online it winds up costing twice as much because of shipping

Hugh , what I am going to tell you is not a little , is very rather sad for our American forum mates , since Zaiger , is the breeder of very good varieties of peach , but they are not for sale in the United States , for hobbyists , while that here in Europe, those same varieties are for sale to fans in nurseries.

Currently , in Europe , there are very good stone fruit breeders , with " stratospheric " varieties .

  • Provedo (its manager Luis Aliseda is a close friend of mine)

Of this breeder , it is worth highlighting these varieties, all of them from the “Extreme” line, that is, high brix level, and very low acidity (extra sweet and subacid).

  • Extreme Letur ( AAA caliber )
  • Extreme Wamba ( AAA caliber )
  • Ural end (AAA gauge)
  • Extreme Cuts ( AAA caliber )
  • Extreme Onis (AAAA size, one of the largest peaches in the world, super sweet flavor, no acidity)

Also look at the white flesh ones

  • PSB Plant production
  • VIF International

http://www.vifinternacional.com/catalogo-de-plantas/

Etc…

And of the Zaiger varieties, since he has a editor for Europe:

IPS Fruit, (does not sell directly to hobbyists, but does sell through their retail nurseries)

And there are real peach wonders from both the Royal series and the Sweet series.

It cannot be that they charge you a lot of money for the purchase in Italian nurseries.
I am Spanish, I buy in nurseries in your country, like these:

  • Vivai Batistini
  • Dalmonte vivai
  • Dalmonte Piante
  • Vivai Fortunato
    Etc…

And the shipping costs of, for example, 12 bare root trees, from Italy to Spain, cost me 24 €

Greetings
Jose

Jose,

Locally I can buy trees for €15 each, but in March this year I bought 3 trees (in pots) from maiolifruttiantichi.it for €78 (including €28 shipping)…maybe I should get a few from Spain

Hugh, you’re more crazy than a goat .

Enzo Maioli (vivai Maioli Frutti antichi), is more expensive than to buy a shroud.

Tell me how many peach trees you want to buy and I will recommend the varieties and where to buy them.

Regards
Jose

I’ve grown Redhaven for a long time. I’ve used Ziram on them in years past and never noticed any issues.

We do typically get a lot of rain here during the growing season (much more than Italy) so it washes off more here than in Italy.

Yes I did when I had Redhavenand never noticed any problems whatsoever. It seem to me that the European version contain some different (24%) other ingredients than do the US version.
