Roasted Chestnuts and pumkin seeds

Cooler weather moving in and roasted chestnuts and pumkin seeds are all that I needed to warm up.

Love chestnuts but hate cutting the slit before roasting. Any tips on putting slice in them.

If you don’t like slicing them, then cook them at lower temperatures (less than 240) for longer periods of time (an hour or more).

do they split open themselves when doing it this way

No, they do not split open at lower temperatures.

I use a cleaver to cut each chestnut in half- then I just roast the halves. I set out a bunch of nuts on a big cutting board, set the cleaver on each one, and whack it through by hitting the cleaver with my free hand. Soooo much easier than trying to get the slit just right.
