I was close :joy: or was it autocorrect :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth::thinking:

I get plant names autocorrected a lot.

@ramv i agree that works best for me no lights for 20 days or until you see buds open

Is this “hardening” or “wooding” of the growth on my Jan’s Best cutting a good sign that it may have roots?

The growth is turning brown, the cutting has 2.5 weeks

Looks fine to me.

Have started some mulberries in fig pops of my own in the bathroom. Medium is a little wetter in retrospect but I will let it ride .

Rooted some Jans that had broken dormancy already and it went fine. You can never have enough rootstock .

How long did you have those for in soil?

I didn’t keep track on the exact date, but I have been grafting for about 2 - 3 weeks now and these are like the tops of the of the rootstocks. I would estimate around 2 weeks.

I just put them in sand that I had laying around. I never used pure sand before, but I think is is a bit too heavy and could damage the roots if you’re not too careful when taking them out. It did work out fine, though.

These are my Jan’s best, hopefully they have rooted, but I have no way of knowing.

I am planning to plant three of them in ground in two weeks, with abundant mulch. Hopefully they make it and I can have some Jan’s best trees

I might try clear bags for propagating next time. I sure wish I could see in my pots too.

You are usually good when you have that strong vertical growth. Jans roots very easily.

Yup, something clear is better. Much more entertaining . Can you spot the root?

I dug up a Marge Elderberry that had no top growth, just to see if it had died. Here’s what’s going on under the soil of this one.

I think I just spotted some roots!

Can I get excited now?

I really wish I had used clear containers for my rooting. I did use an old cracked 10gallon fish tank as a community rooting container. At least I have something I can watch, just don’t know who the roots belong to till I dig lol.

Yes, you can officially be excited

It is definitely more interesting in clear containers, but if you have done it so many times on the same varieties than packing as many as you can in as little space makes more sense. I still do clear containers for new varieties, but for easy rootstock stuff I just try to get as many in as possible.

I did have one clear plastic pot. I’m trying yuzu in it. I think I see a root tip! Either that or power of suggestion and perlite lol.

Also have a couple leaves poking out!

Not sure about this one. Need a clear container . JK, looks promising as well!
