So this is how I have added to my small peach orchard. I start with peach pits from locally grown peaches that are mid to late season freestone. You need to store the pits in a warm dry location in the fall after you get them out of the peaches. In January you can crack the pits open and remove the seeds. Then you put the seeds in a damp paper towel in a Ziploc and put them in the refrigerator. In about three months they will start to sprout. You can pot them up at that point and plant them out as soon as frost is past. I like to let them grow for one season and then the next spring I can graft a desired variety onto the rootstock. Here is a photo of a peach that I grafted onto a root stock in the spring of 2017 . Peaches need to be grafted when it is warmer. They like 70° temperatures to properly callous.they are the last thing I graft in the spring.
