Rose dormancy

This is more of just a general observation, (I’m not a rose guy) but has anyone else noticed how most modern varieties have roses only go dormant kicking and screaming?

They routinely attempt to bloom into December here a ytime we have a day or two that’s any warmer than 55.

They often don’t lose their leaves until well into January. It seems to take a temperature in the mid teens or colder to really knock them down.

It’s like they don’t have an inherent instinct to go dormant. They have to be forced into it.

Older varieties don’t seem to behave this way.
