Shamba Shape-Up

If you want to see a window into farming in East Africa, there’s a wildly popular TV program called “Shamba Shape-Up” that’s basically an extreme makeover for shambas (farms). You can see an episode we contributed to at

The series is funny, very well-produced, and gives simple steps rural African farmers can take to get better production out of their farms.

Series producer David Campbell was working in Kenya as a young tourist guide, and kept meeting struggling farmers every day. He came to see that they were not stupid, nor were they lazy, but lacked basic information. This led him on the path that eventually resulted in what I consider one of the most effective agricultural extension efforts in modern history, and it cost the government almost nothing. Thanks for sharing, Kevin. Can’t wait to watch this.
