The Impellizzeri fig looks to be the recycled fig name.
Someone posted some photos of the Impellizzeri figs. Everything of this fig looks exactly like the hybrid figs popular in Asia, like BoJi Hong (China), Masui (Japan), Asian Big Red Hybrid (Southeast Asia). Also the Genovese Nero (GN) Robs. Those Asian fig names probably come before the Impellizzeri was introduced to USA. I do not know. All those figs have connections to California Brown Turkey.
I also watched the fig review from FigLife on Impellizzeri. There is no mistake. Everything, from leaf shape, fig shape, texture and taste. All the same.
This appears to be another recycled fig name. Some fig marketers just want to introduce foreign fig names to make things more interesting.
Yeah, I can’t speak to all that or what anyone else may be doing with recycling fig names. All I can say is that I got my plant from Leon Edmond, who reported that Impellizzeri originally came from Sicily.
Yes, I’m with you.
Recently I’ve seen at least a couple “new” fig names with Italian/Greek/Spanish fig names. They get people excited. Then found out they are the same as some old figs.
It seems the speed of getting new figs is slower now. It is not so easy to get growers excited if they are not true new fig varieties.
We finally got a frost last night 30F.
My CH fig leaves have been toasted… many dropped already and the last even close to ripe figs picked.

Hello everyone, we had a very busy end of the season here, but I took pictures of most of our figs throughout the season and I just uploaded them to my flikr if anyone wants to see zone 7a:
Most of them are in order of harvest, but flikr also shows you when the photo was taken in the details
Be fruitful in 2025.
I am wondering if you also have the Violette de Bordeaux and if so, how the Ronde and the Violette differ in taste? I personally really love the Violette but I haven’t heard of the Ronde until now.
I can’t answer your question as it will be my first year with both of them, but Rhode de Bordeaux is much earlier ripening.
To my palette they’re relatively similar, VdB being better tasting in my opinion. RdB can be very early, which is nice, but it’s a bad splitter so you’ll have to be mindful of that.
I’m assuming you have the fig wasp there?
When caprified (pollinated by wasps) VdB is one of the best tasting figs on the planet, if not caprified there are many better options
Good to know! Thank you for taking the time to answer me
Yes, we have the wasp and our violettes are delicious!!
Ahh, if you have the wasp then your climate is dry enough RdB probably won’t have issues with splitting.
First fig of the year for me. Indoor figs are never great, but I gave this potted Irene’s a head start since it’s been a slow grower for me and I wanted to have enough growth to take some air layers.
Both are fantastic varieties. VdB is a heavier producer in your climate. RDB is super early and has a seed crunch.
Both are great. You need them both.
