Some of my potted figs survived winter and the ravenous mice

I thought my winter storage plan was rock solid.well there I go thinking again.I had two bundled tarps full of figs.Mice got into both of them, they eat everything in one and made a nest in the other but didn’t eat the figs.

Mice are being jerks for me too. My plumeria sleep in the barn over winter and they always find them to nest i and eat roots I guess. I started putting out traps before they show up.
On another note. My inground brown turkey fig survived our winter. It died all the way down winter of 14/15 and only got about 5’ tall last summer. The buds at the tip are swelling now. Should actually get a good crop I hope.

I think it would be better to not tarp the figs. They might need a little water once a month but mice should be much less an issue.

I always put a few peanut butter baited mousetraps around any potted plants, especially figs.

You can cut wire cloth to fit around the figs and over the top of the pots. I did it with chicken wire to keep the chipmunks out. I tried saving the begonia bulbs that were potted. The mice ate a couple of those. I had my figs sitting on top of them.

I just can’t believe they didn’t touch the ones where their nest was, after eating all, including every root,of every fig in the other tarp they left this which I will try to root,I should break it up for several cuttings but I’ll try to keep it in one piece.
