Summer hedging of blueberries

I summer hedged a Carteret 2 years ago and the crop was reduced last year but this year it has surpassed another Carteret which was not hedged. I plan to hedge one third of my O’Neal bushes as soon as harvest is complete this year. This is the article that led me to try summer hedging.

You just chop off everything higher than three feet?

Yes. It caused the bush to put out lots of new shoots. The berries this year are larger than before i hedged it. Hedging may not work in all zones or with all cultivars. The article has the details.

I can see hedging if you have a large amount of plants to prune. I currently have 13 bushes of rabbit eyes and I use this method. Using this method you don’t have a down year and they are always loaded down with fruit.

I did this to some old plants. Mine have never been pruned
