DH had a fix - hang small tires (or similar stiff cushioning) off the sides of your bush hog. That way the trees won’t be damaged when you hit them.

Easy to do I’ve bumped a few. My favorite technique is to not mow for a long time then mow and throw the heavy mulch on the trunks. It works really well but the orchard is not as enjoyable the rest of the time. It keeps me back from the trees I was doing the same think and thought wait I’m bumbing trunks stop and rethink this.

If you don’t mow around here and let the grass get long you are asking for ticks. You either have to keep it mowed or don’t have grass. Otherwise the deer ticks can get bad.
