Things I’ve learned today

If you don’t have bandaids in your grafting kit parafilm can get you through the graft…maybe…

Kathy,
Did that a few times. Not working too well.

Some of my grafts had my blood dripped on them. Reminded me of some medieval sacrificial ceremony I read about. Or was that to revive Voldemort in Harry Potter  .

Did sacrificing the blood seal the graft take???

I’ve been pretty lucky but cleaning my blade didn’t go well today!!!

Katy

It did. That’s the only good news!!

I am often either rushing or overconfident !!!

I had a good day today. I hope it shows in a few weeks. Maybe I should have let it bleed…

I learned to fillet fish when I was 12, I can whip them out now. Grafting knives have nothing on fillet knives. This has helped but I still cut myself twice. Nothing serious. The knife never was out of control. I just placed my fingers in the wrong spot. This I think is my 5th or 6th year grafting, I stopped keeping track? I’m starting to get the hang of it!

took me awhile to get it right. i should have practiced 1st. but i was too stubborn to bother. would have saved me a few years. i use a electric fillet knife. its much faster but also a lot easier to do some serious damage!

Take a step stool (or ladder) with you when grafting…

(I did manage to tape that branch back up matching the cambium)
