Drew, it’s an odd coincidence that you mentioned that dehydrator. I did a lot of reading about that one last week. I think it’s really interesting and something that, for decades, I’ve thought would be cool if there was a home version, but it seems like a hefty chunk of $ for only doing a few lbs at a time, and rather noisy to run inside living quarters unless the whole family is on board. I’m guessing that the main buyers at this price point are preppers. The shelf life, wide range of what can freeze dried and vacuum packed, and reduction in storage space all make it very appropriate for that market.
In the imaginary world where our income far exceeds our outgo for the duration, that would be my kind of toy.
In the meantime, my days are being consumed by picking peaches and figs and making peach leather, and dried slices, and freezing wedges, and drying figs like crazy right now. Tomorrow is peach butter and, if the heat doesn’t get me first, fig preserves, more dried figs, and more fruit leather. I can’t process them fast enough in this one short time slot.
