I have an old apple tree that after taking about 1/3 of it (it had been terribly neglected by prior owners of the property), it’s pushing new growth from the main trunk!

I’m thinking of taking more down this year and grafting some better apple varieties to it.

If it doesn’t make it, I’ll have more room for other trees. If it does I’ll have some interesting apples.

Do it. You’ll have some stumbles along the way -we all do- but it can work nicely.

Or you could call this 30% year one of a three year project.
