Topping New Potted Trees

I recently got a couple ez start asian pear trees from stark bros and planted them into the ground yesterday. It looks like we are getting some rain this weekend.

The trees are all basically tall whips 4 to 5 feet each. I want to shorten them a bit to start the scaffolding lower. Is there any downside to me topping these trees?
Ive done it to bareroot trees in spring but haven’t heard anything about a potted tree in the summer or fall.

A little late to do radical pruning, in my opinion. The tree may push a bunch of growth that doesn’t harden off before frost. Wait til winter.

Sounds good thank you. Will top the trees when dormant

You can successfully prune now in all liklihood. But it takes vigor from next year’s growth.
