Transplanting a paw paw

I planted a seedling paw paw a few years ago and now it is approaching 4’ tall. I am wondering about moving it next spring. I know it has a tap root and to get as much root as possible, I’ll try for 18-24". Is it going to move OK? Anything else to know?

4ft is kind of ify to move. I have had bad luck moving pawpaw.
But it is possible !
One method is to cut the roots now, like you were going to dig the root ball up , say a 2 ft circle around it, and under cut the tap root. But leave it in place until next spring, move it then.
This may allow it to form a better transplantable root.
Good luck.
I prefer to start them in tree pots.
