Using fabric pots - do you elevate them?

I have an oroblanco grapefruit in a fabric pot (root pouch). It used to be in a ceramic pot that was elevated off of our concrete driveway. Do I need to elevate the fabric pot as well off the concrete for maximum drainage or am I okay because the fabric pot releases water more quickly than the ceramic pot? I have really fast draining mix in the fabric pot.

Thanks.

I don’t think you’ll have aeration issues with well draining mix in fabric pots. But for max drainage of any pot you need direct contact of the potting mix with the soil below. This allows capillary drainage. An elevated pot will retain more water than the same pot with direct contact to soil or another material that water drains thru.

I found it near impossible to elevate fabric bags, they tend to sag. Even picking them up is tough. When older they want to fall apart. Easy to puncture I’ve done that a few times with cages for peppers and tomatoes. That said I only buy fabric these days. I just purchased 10 x 20 gallon bags for 56 dollars plus postage.
Mine are on a concrete patio and they tend to stay a little wet, but on a hot day they become dry very fast.

Thanks guys. I’ll not worry about elevating them off of the concrete. In my zone, I don’t think they will stay too wet over the winter.
