Virginia state forestry seedlings

Has anyone bought from them? Also what size seedlings did you receive (height and diameter). I’m asking because I want to buy the apple seedlings for grafting.
Thank in advance.

I set myself a reminder that they were opening back up. I’ve never bought from them before, but you could graft apples in the Summer if they need more time to size up probably. They grow pretty fast.

With summer grafting can I use dormant scion wood or do I have to use summer wood?

I bought 10 hazelnuts and 5 indigo bushes from them last year. (Picked them up so cant comment on packaging)

The hazelnuts were all about 18-24" in height, dont recall the diameter exaclty, but roughly pencil thick I believe. The indigo bushes were each less than a foot tall (I’d guess maybe 8 inches above the dirt line in average) and a bit thinner (about like a thin chopstick I want to say?).

That said, the tiny indigo bushes took off and have all put on 3-4’ of growth since april, the hazelnuts had a rougher time between pur extremely wet spring, japanese beetles finding them as soon as it turned sunny and then a dry cool last third of the season. But they all seem alive and have put on varying amounts of growth up to a foot this year.

They weren’t as impressive as my order from Mehrabyan, but they were better than some ive seen for quite a few times the price. I would (and likely will this month) order a few things from them again.

I worked there as a kid. Unless it has changed, most of what you buy is going to be less than a foot. Will need another year to graft.

Does anyone know what size American plum they offer? I want to buy some from them for grafting.

My experience is you can graft dormant wood onto something as long as the are actively pushing growth.
