Visit with Mrs G!

Today I visited with @mrsg47 in Newport, RI!

She lives in the vicinity of the Bellevue Mansion district. We are talking one of the grandest neighborhoods in the nation.

My five year-old son came along.

Mrs. G. is modest and insisted I not capture her beauty and charm in a photograph, but she did allow me to take pictures of her orchard fruit.

Mrs. G. was the most gracious hostess. She served us iced tea with key limes, lemon wedges, and spearmint fresh-picked from the garden.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Mister G! He is a gentlemanly fellow and friendly taboot.

Plate of citrus. Mrs. G. grew the little key limes in the foreground. They overwintered in her home near a window. They were delicious!

It was hot in the sunshine. My son grew impatient. Mrs. G. offered a strawberry to assuage him.

Bye bye!

Afterwards, my son and I toured Ocean Drive.

Beautiful!

My uncle lived there years ago and we would go mansion touring. He was in the Navy, I guess there is a base there.

Scott the base closed years ago. We now have only the War College and ship commissionings.

It’s nice to read about members visiting members. I think both should get a badge. Looks like you had a great time. It was nice to see that you visited Bob Vance too.

My mom and sis drove up to New England about ten years ago from OK. They made a stop in Newport and toured the mansions, they really enjoyed it.

They got me a green corduroy hat and a T-shirt from there, and I still wear them, especially the hat, almost every day when I’m out. My only visit to NE was a business trip to the Boston area about twenty years ago. We’d love to go up there and see the fall foliage one day.

You have a very nice place, MrsG. It seems like a peaceful, calming little green sanctuary. It’s a shame that you’ll be leaving it!

Thanks, it is amazing to know I have an acre with solitude in the middle of a city. Come visit before I leave. I have been here for fifteen years full time (but family has been coming for summers since 1902). Lovely place, but its time for a new chapter!

I admire your fortitude…!! It’s not easy moving from such a place esp moving overseas.
