Warren and Ayers Pear Tree

I have two Warren Pear Trees that were planted years ago. At the time I planted it with an Ayers Peach thinking they would pollinate each other. After looking a little closer I found that they may bloom at different times. I cannot determine what would be a good pollinator for Warren. I found this chart on Burnt Ridge website that shows nothing will pollinate it. Pear Pollinator Chart I thought all I had to do was find a pear that bloom at the same time. Does anyone good fire blight resistant varieties that will pollinate Warren?

For Ayers, there is contradictory information on the nursery websites. Some say it is self fertile, others say it is not. Does anyone know? What is a good fire blight resistant variety to pollinate Ayers?

I show Ayers blooming about a week earlier than Warren. If you want a good flavored fireblight resistant variety to pollinate Warren, consider Bell and Shenandoah. Bell is for fresh eating while Shenandoah can be stored for a few months. Ewart would be another good choice.

At my location in central Alabama Ayers and Harrow Sweet blooms at the same time. Improved Kieffer and Orient blooms a little before with some overlap. Korean Giant and Dripping Honey blooms a little after with some overlap. I have other varieties that haven’t bloomed yet so I don’t know how they will fit into the bloom time. After several years my Warren hasn’t bloomed.

I have 3 pear trees… and grafts added to them for other varieties.

Bell and Potomac (2 grafts each)

Warren and Karls Favorite (2 grafts each).

Karls Favorite (aka Ewart) was highly recommended as pollinator for Warren.

@spuddaddy Highly recommend sticking with Karls favorite as a pollinator for warren. Ayers will be ok with pollen from wild callery. Not just any pear pollinates warren well contrary to popular belief. Everyone should always do what they feel is best.

My Karl’s Fav grafts from a few years ago should bloom a little this year. Interested to see effect on Warren branches just a foot or two away from KF.

Be prepared to be shocked! Karls favorite will have your warren fruiting heavy in no time. Ewart aka karls favorite is the secret to my success. Ewart Is a great pear as well. I cannot recommend it highly enough to show how much I appreciate it. It is the best kept secret in growing pears.

Any idea where I can get a Karls Favorite Pear Tree? I can’t find a legitimate Nursery/Website that has Karls in stock. There are a couple of bogus websites that claim to have Karls, but if you look closely, you can see that they are fake.

They have got hard to find. Normally Mike @39thparallel has them https://39thparallel.com/ but he might be sold out or not updated inventory yet. You might send him an inquiry maybe he can custom graft one for you. I’m not sure if anyone else might have one. My close second for places to check would be Bob Pears - Purvis Nursery and Orchard as I mentioned they may call them Ewart but they are the same pear

Mike definately has scion wood and pear rootstocks to graft karls favorite or you can call Bob and see what he has. It is getting late in the season and inventory is running low

Junge used to carry them but not enough people have heard of them to make them popular. They are virtually extint outside our community of fruit growers. @KYnuttrees has some rare pears and I frequently check there myself for obscure things. Cliff is a good guy , karls favorite is not something I have seen him carry but it does not mean he doesn’t. http://nuttrees.net/ you can always reach our with an email and ask.

Karl’s Favourite is a solid pick for pollinating Warren, seems to be the go-to recommendation. I’ve seen a few people say the bloom overlap is reliable even in years where everything else is a bit off.

As I mentioned ayers needs to get to a proper age to produce and then nothing will stop it from yielding heavy crops. Ayers is technically self-pollinating, but it will not always have a good crop by itself.

I have 4500 varieties in the pear database and there are at least 15000 more that I have never heard of.
